Mankato, MN -- Saturday, North Central University (NCU) Softball wrapped up its road series against the Bethany Lutheran College Vikings with a doubleheader showdown in Mankato. Despite strong efforts in the circle and flashes of timely hitting, the Rams dropped both contests, highlighted by a complete-game outing from
Mykaela Broek in the opener and continued defensive execution throughout the day.
Game 1: NCU 0, BLC 5
North Central opened the day in a tightly contested matchup early, as freshman outfielder
Abi Rogers and the Rams worked to generate offense against a strong opposing arm. After a scoreless first inning, momentum shifted in the second and third innings, where a pair of scoring frames created separation. The Rams showed signs of life midway through the game, as sophomore infielder
Kaitlyn Havens and junior utility player
Erica Gilles each recorded hits, helping North Central tally three total hits in the contest. Gilles and Havens, along with Rogers, accounted for all of the Rams' offensive production, while the team consistently put balls in play despite nine strikeouts. In the circle, freshman pitcher
Mykaela Broek delivered a resilient performance, throwing a complete game across six innings while allowing just five hits. Broek worked through multiple innings of pressure, recording 11 flyouts and limiting additional damage after the middle innings. Defensively, North Central continued to battle, turning key outs and preventing extended rallies, though a pair of unearned opportunities proved costly.
Game 2: NCU 0, BLC 8 (5 inn.)
The Rams looked to respond in game two and found early defensive rhythm, but a first-inning surge created an early deficit. North Central continued to compete offensively, with junior
Erica Gilles and freshman catcher
Rhaina Boggess each collecting hits, accounting for the team's two-hit output. Gilles continued her strong day at the plate, finishing the doubleheader with multiple hits and consistently putting pressure on the defense. Boggess added another quality at-bat with a base knock, while the Rams battled through seven total strikeouts against a quick-paced game. Once again, freshman pitcher
Mykaela Broek led the effort in the circle, throwing 4.2 innings and recording four strikeouts. Broek worked efficiently, inducing ground ball outs and limiting extended innings after the opening frame. Despite the final score, North Central showed improved defensive stability as the game progressed, settling in after the first inning and forcing routine outs across the middle frames.
