Minneapolis, MN -- North Central University (NCU) Athletics is thrilled to announce the hiring of
Isaac Wright as the next head coach of the men's golf program. A former North Central student-athlete and multi-year team captain, Wright returns to his alma mater bringing a unique combination of collegiate playing experience, ministry leadership, and passion for student-athlete development. He assumes his new role immediately.Â
Wright currently serves as the Youth and Young Adults Pastor at Summit Church in St. Paul, Minnesota, a role he will continue alongside his coaching responsibilities at North Central. In his pastoral role, Wright has led leadership development initiatives, mentored students and young adults, organized outreach events, and helped create a culture centered on spiritual growth and community engagement. In addition to his ministry background, Wright brings experience in the golf industry from previous roles at the Waupaca Country Club and Tulsa Country Club, where he gained expertise in golf operations, tournament coordination, customer service, and player engagement.
A familiar face within the NCU golf program, Wright competed for the Rams from 2019-2022 and served as a three-time team captain. During his collegiate career, he established himself as one of the top golfers in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC), earning 2019 UMAC All-Conference Honorable Mention honors, 2020 UMAC First Team All-Conference recognition, 2021 UMAC All-Conference Honorable Mention, and the 2021 UMAC Sportsmanship Award.
"As a former student-athlete and golf team captain at NCU, this opportunity carries significant meaning for me personally," said Wright. "My time at North Central helped shape my leadership abilities, relationships, and passion for ministry. I am honored to invest back into a program that had such a meaningful impact on my life."
Wright's vision for the program centers on developing student-athletes both on and off the course. He aims to create an environment where athletes are challenged not only to improve competitively but also to grow spiritually, relationally, and as leaders. He credits much of his own personal and spiritual development to the relationships and mentorship he experienced during his time as a student-athlete at North Central.
Joining Wright on staff will be assistant coaches Asher Wright and Justin Johnson. Asher Wright is a recent alum of North Central University (B.S. in Sports Management '24) and a former 2-year starter on the Men's Golf Team. He brings to the table over a decade of golf industry experience, most notably with LIV Golf, Jackson Hole Golf & Tennis Club, and now as an Assistant Golf Professional at Olympic Hills Golf Club in Eden Prairie, MN. He is a current PGA Associate and is passionate about sharing and teaching the game. Justin Johnson also brings a strong connection to the NCU golf program after competing as a four-year member of the Rams men's golf team and serving as a two-year team captain before graduating in 2018. Since his collegiate career, Johnson has remained highly active within the game of golf while also serving as a youth leader at Bethel's Rock Church. Together, the coaching staff brings a strong blend of golf knowledge, mentorship, leadership, and player development experience that will provide a high level of attentiveness and growth opportunities for Rams student-athletes.
Wright graduated from North Central University in 2023 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Humanitarian Leadership. Prior to attending NCU, he earned an Associate's Degree in Pastoral Studies from Rhema Bible Training College in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He has also become a Licensed Minister through the Assemblies of God.
Isaac currently resides in Saint Paul, Minnesota, with his wife Naomi and their one-year-old daughter Addison. Naomi is also a North Central alumna and former standout member of the NCU women's basketball program, where she was a four-year starter, three-year team captain, and All-Conference student-athlete. Outside of ministry and golf, Wright enjoys spending time with family and friends, being surrounded by mentors and community, and following his favorite sports teams, including the Oklahoma Sooners, Green Bay Packers, and Oklahoma City Thunder.
Welcome back, Coach Wright!
