Rams Stung By Yellowjackets

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ST. PAUL, Minn. - North Central University softball (7-21, 1-11 UMAC) hosted The University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets (13-13, 7-1 UMAC) on Saturday night at The University of Northwestern-St. Paul in a Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) doubleheader. Despite the Rams best efforts, Superior defeated North Central 13-0 (five innings) and 2-1 respectively. The 2-1 scoreline is the closest the Yellowjackets and Rams series has ever been since Superior joined the UMAC in 2015.

Game 1: Errors plagued the Rams in the first game of the evening giving up seven errors to the Yellowjackets. As a result, the Yellowjackets scored multiple runs in four consectuvie innings before the Rams defense stepped up allowing no runs in the top of the fifth. Superior wasted no time getting on the board with hot bats at the plate as the first four of the Jackets lineup singled or better to start the game. While the Rams defense struggled the Yellowjackets stepped up holding the Rams to only one hit which came in bottom of the third inning when Kylee Bommersbach (Sartell, Minn./Sartell) hit a single to center field but the Rams offensive efforts ended there. Despite the aggressive mindset at the plate the Rams couldn't hit past the Yellowjackets strong defense.

Game 2: In a game where defensive efforts were higlighted, the Rams kept a close scoreline with the Jackets. A quick 2-0 lead after the top of the second gave the Rams the opportunity for a comeback and redemption. However, both teams battled it out recording quick outs and the scoreline close. North Central's lone run of the game came in the bottom of the seventh inning when Ellee Laws (Odgen, Iowa/Odgen) hit her first collegiate home run. However, Superior retired the side quickly after Laws' monster hit to end the game 2-1 in favor of the Yellowjackets.

Up Next: The Rams will travel to Mankato, Minn and face Bethany Lutheran on Tuesday April 24 for a UMAC doubleheader with the Vikings. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
