FRIDLEY, MN - The North Central University men's tennis team fell in the season opener on Friday as they took on Bethany Lutheran College in a non-conference matchup. The Bethany Lutheran men's team was picked to finish in fourth place in the 2019 UMAC preseason coaches' poll. NCU fell to BLC 6-3 despite many hard fought matches.
The Rams were able to win the fifth and sixth singles matchups as
Danny Williams won in dominating fashion by scores of 6-0 and 6-2.
Josiah Williams defeated David Lee in a thrilling matchup in the sixth singles spot. Williams won 6-4 then lost 4-6. Williams took the tiebreaker 10-8 to seal the match. Josh Ekong dropped the first set 1-6 but tightened the set 5-7 in the second set despite dropping both.
In the doubles matchups, NCU fell in the first and second doubles, but won in the third doubles as
Danny Williams and
Ken Schrock defeated Noah Gernander and David Lee 8-4 to secure the victory.
The Rams will look to build on some momentum as they will be back in action on Tuesday February 19th at 1:30 p.m. in a non-conference matchup with Martin Luther College in Lakeville, MN.
