LAKEVILLE, Minn - The North Central University men's tennis team picked up their first win of the 2019 season as they defeated Crown College 5-4 in a tight UMAC match. Earlier in the day, the Rams fell to Martin Luther College 9-0 but were able to rebound to pick up the win against Crown.
In the morning matchup with Martin Luther College the Rams fought hard but were unable to take a match from the Knights.
Judah Smith played in the first singles spot again for NCU but fell to Josh Koelpin of MLC.
Micah Peterson,
Noah Ramsby,
Danny Williams,
Ken Schrock, and
Josiah Williams rounded out the singles participants for NCU. In the doubles portion, Smith and Peterson anchored the first doubles spot, as Josh Ekong and Rodrigo de Mendoza played together in the second doubles spot.
Ken Schrock and
Josiah Williams played in the third doubles spot for the Rams.
\NCU was able to respond in their second UMAC matchup of the day against Crown. The Rams dropped the first singles match as Josh Ekong fell to Caleb Baumann.
Judah Smith and
Micah Peterson each fell in hard fought singles matches in the second and third singles spot. NCU was able to take the final three singles match up as
Noah Ramsby, Rodrigo de Mendoza and
Danny Williams each won in straight sets to round out the singles matches.
The team score would be decided in the doubles portion of the match up. Josh Ekong and
Noah Ramsby fell in the first singles spot 2-8.
Ken Schrock and
Danny Williams were able to win the second doubles match 8-3. Rodrigo de Mendoza and
Josiah Williams were able to take the third doubles match by a score of 8-2 to propel the men to a great win over Crown College.
The win moves their record to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play. NCU will be off for spring break and will return to action on Thursday, March 14 at 6:00 p.m. as they will take on Minnesota-Morris in another UMAC contest.
