Softball Rallies for First UMAC Win in Series Split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ASHLAND, Wis. – North Central University (NCU) hit the road Tuesday afternoon as they headed across the border to battle with the Lumberjills of Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin. Game one saw the Rams taking a 6-5 victory, behind a late game push as they scored three runs in the final inning to steal the game from the Lumberjills, their first Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) win of the 2019 season.. Northland found their offensive groove in game two, however, as they tallied 15 total hits en route to their 14-5 victory, forcing a series split.

GAME ONE RECAP
The Lumberjills were aggressive early, jumping on NCU starter, Emma Bushey, for two early runs in the bottom half of the first frame. The Rams answered back with a run of their own, but Northland continued to put the pressure on with another two runs scored in inning number three, increasing their lead to 4-1. Bushey starting to compound confidence as she strung together three scoreless innings in a row. As the Lumberjill's scoring attacked was quieted, the NCU offensive momentum revved to full gear scoring five unanswered runs, to steal the lead away from the Jills late in the ball game. Northland threatened to extend the game in the bottom of the final frame, but could only bring one run across as the Rams bested the Lumberjills by a score of 6-5, their first UMAC win. North Central was led by a balanced scoring attack as all six runs batted in were drove in by six separate Ram's hitters. Emma Bushey started and finished the game for the Rams as she picks up the victory.

After the Rams answered the Jill's lone run in the first inning with two of their own in the second, Northland exploded with seven runs in the bottom half of the second frame to lead 8-2. The Rams closed the gap once more in the 5th inning thanks to a bases clearing double from Stephanie CaravalhoAnswering that shot with a counter punch of their own, Northland tacked on three runs in the following half inning to push their lead back to six. The Jills added two more to their lead in the bottom half of the 6th as they walked it off to end the game, drawing a split between the two teams in the afternoon doubleheader.
