Men and Women Finish 7th Overall at UMAC Indoor Championships

Superior, WI -- Today, the North Central University Track and Field teams took to day two of the UMAC Indoor Championships. Saturday was highlighted by numerous personal bests as well as even more broken school records to finish out the season. 

Sprints:

Starting the day off in the 60-meter hurdles, Ramiyah Words finished off her season in a time of 10.96 seconds for an 8th place finish and a school record for the Rams.

Scoring points for the teams in the 60-meter finals, Deshawna Hodges crossed the finish line in 8.33 seconds for 4th place. Nevaeh Henderson ended in 8th place in 8.56 seconds overall.

In the women's 200-meter, Serena Lanes ran to a 4th place finish and a new program record with a time of 27.95 seconds while teammate Hodges was close behind in 28.38 for 7th place. On the men's side, freshman Ja'Corey Jazzmere came across the finish line in 25.28 seconds overall.


Distance:

The women's 800-meter run was highlighted by freshman Jessica Redman who had a massive PR in the event in 2:33.40 placing her in 7th overall. In the men's 800-meter, Garrett Converse finished on top for the team in 2:09.42, a personal best as well as an 11th place finish for the sophomore.


Jumps:

Chloe Bjorlin was the solo jumper for day two in the women's triple jump. The sophomore ended in 6th place with a mark of 8.85 meters.
 

Throws:

Graduate student MiCayla Jones earned an 8th place finish in the women's shot put, scoring another point for the Rams with a mark of 9.64 meters. 
 

Relays:

To end the meet on a high note, the women's 4 x 400 meter relay of Deshawna Hodges, Hope Naegelen, Jessica Redman, and Serena Lanes broke the top 3 (3rd place) in a record-breaking time of 4:27.17. 

On the men's side, the team of Ja'Corey Jazzmere, Eli Salonek, Garrett Converse, and Matthew Holstad ended the race in 5th place in a time of 3:54.45.

Both the men's and women's teams finished in 7th place overall with 18 and 49 points, respectively. The University of Wisconsin Superior Yellowjackets defended their title with both teams winning the meet. 


Looking Ahead:

The Track and Field teams take a break as they prepare for the start of the Outdoor season in April. Both teams' first meet will take place at Hamline University on Saturday, April 6th!
