MINNEAPOLIS-- Women's tennis posted their first win of the season late on Monday night at Lifetime Fitness-Lakeville. The Rams defeated Crown College, 6-3, in a non-conference match hosted by North Central.
The top Rams doubles team of sophomore Madalyn Meetz (Omro, Wis./Oshkosh West) and junior Jaila Cappelli (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) got their second win of the year with an 8-6 triumph over Crown. Sophomore Sierra Hunter (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern) and freshman Nicole Swanson (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) took an 8-2 victory in the second doubles match.
Jaila Cappelli also took home her second singles win of the season with a 6-3, 6-2 win in number two singles. Sierra Hunter also moved to 2-1 on the year in singles play with a 6-2, 6-1 win in the third singles match.
Nicole Swanson claimed her second win of the day and her first singles win of the season with a 6-0, 6-2 win in the fourth singles match. Freshman Jenna Willenbring (Hastings, Minn./Hastings) wrapped up the Rams victory with a 6-2, 6-2 win in the fifth singles match, her first invidual win of the year.
The Rams victory stands as the first collegiate coaching win for Rams first year coach, Carin Tuff.
North Central will return to action on Thursday when they host the University of Minnesota-Morris (Morris, Minn.). The non-conference match is scheduled for a 12 p.m. start at Lifetime Fitness-Fridley.
