LAKEVILLE, Minn. The North Central University women's tennis team earned their first win of the 2019 season as they swept Crown College 9-0 on Wednesday. The Rams were led by dominant singles play against Crown as all matchups ended in straight sets victories for NCU. Earlier in the morning the Rams faced off against Martin Luther College and fell to Martin Luther 1-8.
In the first match of the day the Rams were led by
Nicole Swanson as she picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win over Dana Pietzyk in the fifth singles spot. That would be the only win for the Rams after a hard fought loss to a very talented Knights team.
Anne Clarke continues to lead the Rams playing in the first singes spot. Maddie Meetz,
Sierra Hunter,
Emily Loop, and Erien Oellerich rounded out the six singles participants.
Anne Clarke and Maddie Meetz played together in the first doubles spot.
Sierra Hunter and
Emily Loop played in the second doubles, followed by
Nicole Swanson and
Erin Oellerich in the third doubles group.
The Rams were able to respond in a big way in the second match of the day as they swept Crown College in a dominant fashion to pick up a great UMAC win.
Anne Clarke led the way with a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the first singles spot. Maddie Meetz followed with a 6-3, 6-4 win.
Sierra Hunter won convincingly 6-1,6-2 in the third singles spot.
Emily Loop,
Nicole Swanson, and
Erin Oellerich all swept their opponents as well. In the doubles matchups
Anne Clarke and Maddie Meetz won 8-2.
Sierra Hunter and
Emily Loop won 8-4.
Nicole Swanson and
Erin Oellerich swept the third doubles matchup 8-0.
NCU will be off for the spring break next week and will return to action Thursday, March 14 at 6:00 p.m. to take on Minnesota-Morris in a UMAC contest.
