Game Recap
Praying that a downpour would hold off, the Rams took the field eager to play the Knights. NCU's readiness was shown through
Alexis Orlando's (Rosemount, MN, Rosemount High School) goal the went right over the keeper's head in just the 3
rd minute of the game. From then on, it was a high intense but respectful game. NCU's backline, composed of
Rachel Lampton (Lake Villa, IL, Lakes Community High School),
Sydney Cooper (Andover, MN, Andover High School),
Annalise Gehrke (Plymouth, MN, For Him Academy),
Hannah Fischer (Port Washington, WI, Living Word Lutheran High School), and
Esther Johnson (Brooklyn Park, MN), played a near perfect game. Their communication, covering, and strategic defense caused lots of confusion for the Knights and lets the Rams win several of balls. Additionally, goalkeeper
Arien Fritts' (Ham Lake, MN, Fritts Homeschool Academy) leadership out of the net was invaluable.
Fritts had a number of clutch saves and had a total of 25 saves.
After two goals from MLC,
Hannah Grubbs (Mantua, OH, Newbury High School) went one v. one with a Knights' defender and squeezed a goal on the front post, tying the score. MLC managed to get in another goal before the half, getting the score to 3-2. The Rams really turned it on in the second half on the attack. Creating chance after chance, NCU seemed to be unstoppable, with all the momentum switching their way and causing some nervousness in the Knights. In the 84
th minute, the Rams came down in full force attacking the Viking's net, resulting in a corner kick for NCU.
Kara Lewis (Mandeville, LA, Northlake Christian School) played an amazing ball right to the foot of
Grubbs to tie the score 3-3. After two ten-minute periods of overtime, the score was still tied. However, the way the game ended, with the solidity of the NCU backline and the fire of the offense, the Rams are looking up with the outcome and are eager for the rematch.
